\"SantaClaus\"<\/a>NORTH POLE, AK — <\/strong>HO! HO! HO! Merry\u2026 April? On April 24th<\/sup>, North Pole Grange #6, in North Pole, Alaska, welcomed a new member into its halls; Santa Claus. Mr. Claus (and yes that\u2019s his real name) is a resident of North Pole and serves as the President of the North Pole Chamber of Commerce.<\/p>\n

John Poirrier, President of the Alaska State Grange and chair of North Pole Grange\u2019s Executive Committee, was on hand to welcome Mr. Claus into the Grange during the annual Grange Month open house.<\/p>\n

\u201cSanta is very busy year round so we we\u2019re happy he was able to take time out of his busy schedule to become a part of the Grange,\u201d said Poirrier.<\/p>\n

Michael Martin, National Grange Membership Director, was also present and expressed joy in having Santa Claus joining the Grange.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m honored that I was able to present Mr. Claus his very own membership card, welcoming him into this great organization.\u201d<\/p>\n

The North Pole Grange conducts many events each year that are designed to provide activity for the public and serve as fundraisers. The First Friday art shows are extremely popular. Each month\u00a0a different local\u00a0artist displays original paintings for public viewing.\u00a0 Each show has averaged\u00a0over 100 visitors per show. Other events include pancake breakfasts, community yard sales, Easter egg hunts and a haunted house.<\/p>\n

Mr. Claus himself said that, \u201che was excited to be Grange member,\u201d and that \u201cthe North Pole Grange is a valuable asset to the community.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Grange in Alaska has played a significant role in helping to establish food, power and telephone cooperatives prior to statehood. It was also directly involved in forming state fairs and the Division of Agriculture.<\/p>\n

Established in 1867, The National Grange, a nonpartisan, nonprofit fraternal organization, is the oldest agricultural and rural community service organization. With more than 2,100 local chapters, the Grange has evolved into the nation\u2019s leading rural advocacy organization and a major benefactor to local communities.
