It was “fair day” on the school calendar and “Kids’ Day” on the St. Joseph County Grange Fair schedule. The weather cooperated with those plans. By afternoon, the temperature was in the 60s and the sun was shining.

Since it was “wrist band day” at the fair, the cost of carnival rides was reduced, a financial advantage that created waiting lines for both the adult rides and those in Kiddie Land.

Tim Noga of Leonidas had taken his children to the fair on Sunday, but told them they had to wait until Monday for the rides. By 2:30 p.m. they were getting tired, he said.
