Ask your Legislator to support PBM Reform
Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) were created as middlemen to reduce administrative costs for insurers, validate a patient’s eligibility, administer plan benefits, and negotiate costs between pharmacies and health plans. Over time, PBMs have been allowed to operate virtually unchecked as they consolidated to where three companies now control 80% of the prescription drug market. This hurts both the consumer – especially rural residents – and pharmacists, as middlemen are walking away with major profits.
In the recent Rural Minds / National Grange webinar “Improving Access to Medicines for People Living with Mental Illness,” Dr. Madelaine Feldman outlined how insurance coverage limits access and impacts patient out-of-pocket costs. She also explained how we change the status quo by advancing important PBM reforms that better serve patients.
We encourage you to reach out to your federal legislators to urge them to take access on Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM) reform by the end of this legislative session.
